(Austin, TX – September 15, 2004) – Texas-based uShip, Inc. is coming to the aid of hurricane victims by announcing a new initiative this week. With hurricanes Charlie and Frances already leaving their destructive mark, and with Hurricane Ivan fast approaching the northern gulf coast, uShip announced that it would suspend all transaction fees for shipments and moves originating or ending in Florida, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana until the end of October.
uShip recognizes that residents of these states are faced with many challenges, particularly financial, and that the shipping of household goods will be very difficult and costly throughout this crisis. By suspending transaction fees, uShip is encouraging its vast network of drivers and moving companies to accept discounted shipments throughout the region. Hopefully, this will help families receive shipments of furniture and other household goods from family and friends at reasonable prices.
uShip co-founder Mickey Millsap, who was born and raised in Florida, said the company’s reasoning was simple. “I was in Tampa visiting family after Hurricane Charley and saw the devastation first hand. The people in this region are going through a very difficult time right now and they need all the help they can get. We realize this is a small contribution, but we are committed to doing whatever we can.”
