uShip Announces 100,000th Transportation Service Provider

Small to Large Operations Use uShip to Grow Their Businesses and Get the Job Done

(Austin, TX – May 1, 2008) Austin-based company uShip announced today that they have registered their 100,000th Transportation Service Provider (TSP) member. According to CEO Matt Chasen, this is a momentous benchmark not only for uShip, but for the trucking and shipping industries as well. Founded in 2003, uShip is the first and largest online marketplace for shipping services.”The industry’s response to uShip has been overwhelming and exceeded our expectations in every way,” Chasen said. “We now have 100,000 TSPs, making us by far the largest online community for transportation services. This achievement is further proof that we’ve succeeded in changing the way goods are being shipped.”

While the majority of uShip’s TSPs are independent owner-operators and smaller carrier companies, uShip’s membership also comprises over 5,000 freight brokers and 2,000 freight forwarders. These brokers and forwarders are intermediaries that aggregate shipments and resell the services of the largest freight carriers, including Yellow/Roadway (YRCW), FedEx (FDX), Old Dominion (ODFL), J.B. Hunt (JBHT), and others.

The 100,000th uShip TSP is Big Bend Trucking, LLC. “As an independent carrier, we are always looking for new sources of business, and uShip looks like a great fit,” co-owner Kim Maserang said. “We found uShip as an alternative to other freight sites that charge us costly monthly subscription fees whether we book any business or not. The great thing about uShip is that it is free to join and bid on business, and our company only pays if we book new jobs. This is especially important as diesel prices continue to climb and we need to maximize every mile on the road and every dollar in our bank account.”

Early adopters of uShip were heavy eBay (EBAY) users who were seeking more affordable ways to ship their larger items.  Since then, uShip has grown to include thousands of businesses and individuals interested in moving just about any large shipment including vehicles, boats, motorcycles, household goods, pets and livestock, art and more.

“Small businesses and large companies have come to depend on uShip as their gateway to new customers, which keeps their businesses going strong,” Chasen added. “We’re proud that we’ve reached this milestone so quickly, and we’re even more proud of the TSPs who use the strength of uShip to get the job done.”
