Three large LTL carriers – Con-way Freight, Old Dominion Freight Line and YRC Freight – have committed to publishing rates on offer to uShip’s shipper-direct LTL (less-than-truckload) spot rate marketplace, uShip reported. The additions will bring the total national and regional LTL carriers that are either live or coming online to uShip’s marketplace to 28, representing more than 80 percent of the annual volume in the $32 billion LTL market in the U.S.
“By publishing their rates through uShip, LTL carriers can act a lot like airlines or hotels when it comes to pricing,” said Jim Bramlett, GM of uShip LTL Freight. “They can now reach shipping customers directly with rates they control and dynamically adjust with market and seasonal conditions. This optimizes their asset utilization, accelerates growth in their most profitable segment, and maintains strong yield levels while maintaining their 3PL contracts.”
Today, uShip has 250,000 registered business shippers with more than 35 percent of its total shipping volume in commercial freight. This number only increases as uShip pushes more instantly-bookable, non-auction shipments into its online marketplace, the company says.
