Help on Wheels: Gulf Cats Coming to Norfolk – WAVY (NBC – Norfolk, Va.)

In need of good, loving homes

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Last week, more than 40 dogs were turned over to local animal shelters in the Gulf due to the oil spill and increasing economic concerns. Some of the dogs were transported to Virginia courtesy of PETA and Pamela Anderson. Now it’s the cats turn.

On Wednesday, 30 cats will from New Orleans will arrive at PETA headquarters in Norfolk. Once they’re here, PETA will work to find them new homes. The cats will need very special homes because they most of them are suffering from illnesses and injuries.

The cats are being shipped to Hampton Roads for free via UShip, an online shipping company.

PETA will provide the cats with veterinary care, spay-and-neuter surgeries, and flea treatment prior to adoption-all paid for by Pamela Anderson. Residents in Virginia who are able to adopt a cat can apply at PETA.org http://www.peta.org/.
