Austin-based uShip Inc., which hosts online auctions for shipping services, has raised $2 million of a planned $4 million funding, according to a securities filing.

The company, founded in 2004, links people and businesses with transporters. Carriers bid to win businesses, often filling extra space in their trucks and saving customers 50 percent on average, according to uShip.

The firm last year expanded into Canada, Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom, and has said it plans further expansion into the Netherlands, France and Spain during the next year, Chasen said.

Late last year, uShip moved into a new downtown headquarters at Third and Brazos streets to accommodate its growth.

With the move into 18,628 square feet at Third and Brazos streets, uShip will quadruple its local footprint. The company is targeting Dec. 1 for its move-in, Chasen said.

The company had 65 employees as of July, and CEO Matt Chasen said at the time that he expected that number to double in the next few years.
