UShip’s pickup of online shipping kin Boxby to boost presence in Europe
Austin-based uShip.com has purchased Boxby Ltd., a Scottish company, to extend its reach in Europe.
UShip runs a reverse auction that allows customers who need to ship something to get the lowest price for doing so. They post what they need to ship, and carriers with extra space to fill submit bids.
The site can be used by companies and individuals.
UShip already has local versions of its site in the United Kingdom, Germany and other parts of Europe.
Boxby has a similar service, offering customers a place to seek bids to ship personal items or business goods and equipment.
Terms were not disclosed.
As part of the deal, uShip is establishing a European headquarters in Amsterdam. Shawn Bose was named vice president and general manager of the company’s global business.
